I’ve been a reporter with The New York Times for over a decade covering labor and workplace issues across a variety of industries, from Hollywood and tech to doctors and lawyers to retail and manufacturing. I also frequently write profiles and other features for the Times Sunday business section and have written for the Times magazine.

“Mutiny” is my second book. My first, “The Escape Artists,” was an inside account of the Obama administration’s response to the Great Recession and financial crisis of 2008.

I’ve won awards for my journalism, including a Loeb award, and studied at Oxford University in England as a Rhodes Scholar. I started my career at The New Republic magazine in Washington, where I worked for almost fifteen years covering politics and economics. In 2004, I wrote the first profile of an Illinois state senator named Barack Obama to run in a national magazine.
